Here is information about several upcoming PTO activities:

+ 5th Grade Celebration Meeting - January 11 at 5:30  Samuelson Library
Each year the 5th grade class celebrates their move to Middle School with an end 0f the year celebration at Samuelson.  While the PTO provides the funds for the event, it is up to the 5th grade families to plan and carry out the celebration.  Please plan on attending the first planning meeting on January 11

+ January PTO Meeting - January 11 at 6:30  Samuelson Library
Please join us for the January PTO Meeting.  We will be discussing the upcoming Book Fair, Staff Appreciation Meal and Family Fun Night

+ Scholastic Book Fair - February 24 and 25
The Spring Book Fair will be held February 24 and 25 in the school library.  Depending on sales, we can earn $1,000 in rewards to be used for classroom literacy materials.  Volunteers are needed to help set-up, sell books and pack up each day.  Please check out the sign-up genius link below to see how you can help.

+ Family Fun Night - March 6
In order to plan the evening, we need to have 55 volunteers signed up to help with Fun Night by February 12.  Sign-up notes have already come home with students this week.  An on-line sign-up will be available soon (we'll post that information here next week).  Additional sign-up sheets are available in the office or send a note to samuelsonpto@gmail.com.

Clothing Donations

Cold weather is here and Mrs. Jones, our school nurse, needs donations of cold weather gear for students. She is looking for new or gently used mittens and hats for students. She also needs basic clothing items for when students need new clothes during the day, such as sweatpants and shirts (especially small child sizes). You can send items to school with your student or Mrs. Jones can be reached at michelle.jones@dmschools.org if you have any questions. Thanks for supporting Samuelson!

Winter Weather is Here!

The first snow of the school year has come ... and is mostly gone already!  It is likely that at some point this winter a snowstorm will happen during the day and raise the question of school being let out early.  The best source of information is the district's website: http://www.dmps.k12.ia.us/  As soon as district staff decide to let out school early, that information will be posted on the website.

Mrs. Roerig, our principal, has asked we do not call the office just to see if school is being dimissed early.  The office staff get very busy on these days relaying messages to students, and reducing the phone calls can make the process much smoother.

Thanks for your cooperation!
