Family Fun Night Week

Its Family Fun Night Week! Fun Night is this Friday, March 4 from 6-8 pm. The cost for students is $6 and anyone wearing yellow or green gets a $1 discount.

Local businesses have donated a bunch of great Door Prizes including: Blank Park Zoo, Wasabi Chi, Chuck E Cheese, Imagine Salon, Monkey Joes and Apex Athletics.

The concession stand will have cans of pop for $1, popcorn for $1, and Hyvee pizza for $1.50.

All proceeds from the evening will be donated to the school library for new books. Each book costs between $10 and $20, so we are hoping to earn enough for more that 50 books.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. We hope to see you there!

Adult Walk-a-thon Shirts for Sale

When the district Graphic Design students printed our Walk-a-thon shirts, they did several extra adult shirts to practice the printing process.  We are offering the shirts for $5 and have a limited number of Adult Small, Medium and Large shirts.  If you would like a shirt, please send an email to samuelsonpto@gmail.com.

Scholastic Book Fair Help Needed

The Scholastic Book Fair starts on Wednesday, October 21 and we need parents to volunteer to help set up, sell books and pack up the Fair each day. In the past school staff have been available to help when we didn't have enough volunteers. However, due to changes in school district policy that won't always be possible.

Scholastic Book Fair and Staff Dinner

The Scholastic Book Fair is just a month away and the PTO needs volunteers to help set-up the Fair, sell books and pack up the Fair both days.

The rewards we earn from the Fair are dependent on sales and are used to purchase literacy materials for our classrooms. We usually earn about $1,000!

We will also provide a meal for school staff on Wednesday, October 21 during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Most of the meal will be catered, but we are looking for donations of desserts, beverages, and paper goods. Please use this link to sign-up to donate items.

Samuelson Walk-a-thon 2015

Walk-a-thon Packets are coming home with students tomorrow. Students can collect donations for walking 30 minutes on the school walking track on October 2.

Funds raised from the Walk-a-thon will be used for PTO activities, including purchasing books for the school library. We want to provide at least $2,500 for new books as they are well loved and used by our students.

Students earn the following prizes for their collected donations:
$10 earns a color changing Bracelet
$40 earns a Samuelson Backpack and Bracelet
$75 earns a limited edition Walk-a-thon T-shirt, Backpack and Bracelet
$100 earns a Pizza Party Lunch with our Principal, T-shirt, Backpack and Bracelet.

In addition, all who collect at least $100 will be entered into a drawing for one of two $50 Target Gift Cards

The top earning student will win an Amazon Fire HD 6 Tablet (6" HD Display, with Wi-Fi, 8 GB)!

The top earning classroom in each grade will win a Popsicle party.

Completed envelopes will all collected funds must be turned into the school by October 2 to be eligible for prizes. No prizes will be awarded until all collected checks are cleared by the PTO's bank.

Busy Time for Samuelson PTO

September and October are proving to be busy months!

+ Send in your Box Tops through the rest of the week to vote for your winner of the Iowa State v Iowa football game this weekend.
+ Beaverdale Fall Festival Parade Saturday, September 19. Plan on joining us walking in the parade to support Samuelson. Details will come home at the end of next week when the parade line-up is finalized.
+ Samuelson Walk-a-thon on Friday, October 2. Donation envelopes will come home next week with all the details. Check those backpacks!
+ Picture Day Tuesday, October 13. Two volunteers are needed from 8:30 to approximately noon to help get students to the photographer and make sure they look their best. Please leave a comment here or send an email to samuelsonpto@gmail.com if you can help

Box Tops Check

We recently received at check from Box Tops for Education for $911. Clipping those little labels really adds up. Thanks to the Langworthys for collecting, processing, and mailing in the labels this year!

The PTO needs a new family to take over this project starting in June. It can be done on your own time and is a great way to help earn funds for our building. If your interested, please leave a comment here or send a note to samulesonpto@gmail.com.

Samuelson PTO Activities

The next month is very busy for Samuelson PTO.  We have put together sign-up lists for the volunteer activities and supplies that we need.   Simply click on the following links to see how you can help.  If you don't already have a SignUp Genius account it is free and easy. 

Family Fun Night on March 6 from 6-8 pm

Fun Night is a chance for our students to get together for fun and games.

We need about 15 more volunteers to help with the evening's activities from 7-8:15. Without more volunteers we won't be able to offer all of our planned activities.

Also, we are hoping to have many of the needed supplies donated to keep our expenses lower.  The proceeds from the evening will be used to buy more books for the library.

Samuelson 3rd Annual Walk-a-Thon

Tuesday, September 23 is the start of the Third Annual Samuelson Walk-a-thon. Students will collect donations for walking 30 minutes on the school walking track on Friday, October 10. This is the PTO's main fundraiser for the year and proceeds will be used for PTO activities and for our Technology Fund for our classrooms.

Students can ask family, friends and neighbors for donations but they must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Students can earn a variety of prizes for the donations they collect. Donations envelopes will come home with students on Tuesday and have all the details on the Walk-a-thon prizes. The top earning student will win an iPod shuffle and iTunes gift card. And the top earning classroom in each grade level will win a Popsicle Party.

Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser ... Now until New Year's Eve!

Samuelson PTO has partnered with Buffalo Wild Wings on Merle Hay Road to raise funds for our Technology Fund.  Anytime you visit the Merle Hay BWW between now and December 31 the restaurant will give 10% to the PTO.  

Simply let your server know that you are supporting Samuelson and show them the printed attached flyer.  Or, you can simply show them the flyer on your phone.  If you would like an emailed copy of the flyer, please send a note to sameulsonpto@gmail.com.

Hopefully we'll be able to add a lot to the Technology Fund in the next four months!

Labels for Education Bonus Opportunity

Samuelson participates in the Labels for Education program and we have the opportunity to earn bonus points through mid-December.   Simply clip the labels and send them into the office!  Our Coordinators will handle all the paperwork to get us the bonus!  (Thanks McGuffin Family!)

These labels are found on more that 2,500 products like Campbells, Pepperidge Farms, and Bic. Clipping Labels for Education earns the school points that can be used to purchase various office supplies.  So far this year we've redeemed points for Fun Night Prizes and for a light weight folding table that can be used for a variety of school functions.

PTO Meeting Tuesday, November 12

Our next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, November 12 at 6:30 in the school library.  Please plan on attending  as we'll be discussing how to spend the proceeds from the Walk-a-thon, getting an update on the Scholastic Book Fair and getting an update on school activities from Mrs. Roerig, our principal.  After the general meeting we'll also have a quick Fun Night Planning Meeting.  Fun Night is just a few months away and its time to start getting organized.

Samuelson Walk-a-thon

The Samuelson Walk-a-thon kicks off on Thursday, September 26!  Students will collect donations for walking 30 minutes on Friday, October 11.

The proceeds from the Walk-a-thon will go toward our PTO activities and to purchase iPads for student use in the classrooms.  Our classrooms have either 2 or 3 iPads, and school staff has asked us to help purchase additional ones so each class has 4 units.

Box Top Collection Contest

Its time to start gathering up Box Tops for Education for our Fall Collection Contest!  Send in your Box Tops to the school office the week of September 9 and vote for your favorite team - Iowa State or Iowa.

Each Box Top is worth 10 cents, and we often earn over $400 with the contest.  So now matter the result on the football field, Samuelson students are the winners!

Tyson Project A+

Dear Parents:  We have an exciting opportunity to s hare with you. We are taking part in a national fundraising program sponsored by Tyson Foods, Inc. called Tyson Project A+™. Through this program, we can raise as much as $12,000 for our school this year!  The money we raise can go towards buying books or computers , making improvements to our buildings , or anything else that we want. 

All we have to do to participate is clip and save the entire Project A+™ label from participating Tyson products. Each label we collect is worth 24¢ for our school. You can drop off labels in the school office.

Family Fun Night and Scholastic Book Fair

Family Fun Night

Thank-You to everyone who supported Samuelson Family Fun Night last week.  Over 70 volunteers helped plan the evening, assemble Kids of Character Baskets, set-up the evening, help with activities, and helped clean-up afterwards.  And that doesn't include the families that donated items for the Baskets or snack cakes!

We also raised over $1,300 for the PTO Technology Fund to purchase more I-Pads and educational apps for Samuelson classrooms. Thanks again!

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is this Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14 from dismissal to 8 pm each night in the gym.  Since this is our second Fair of the school year, we can earn up to 65% of sales in Rewards from Scholastic.  Our goal for this Fair is to earn enough Rewards to purchase 6 more listening stations for the classrooms.  Fair Rewards will be used for the listening stations until all the classrooms have one and we only need 6 more.  

Help is needed on Wednesday and Thursday starting at 5 pm so those already volunteering can go to their student's conferences and help with the Staff Appreciation Dinner.  If you can help at the Fair for an hour either night, please contact Heather Silberhorn at 577-7313 or 5silberhornsgmail.com.

Samuelson Family Fun Night

Family Fun Night

Its just over 2 weeks to Family Fun Night!  Here are a couple ways that you can help make the night a success:

1. Volunteer to help with the games from 5:45 to 7 pm or 7 to 8:20 pm. (or both!)  We still need 33 more people to help that night in order to have all of the planned activities.  Thanks to everyone who has already signed up!

2. Donate a box of snack cakes like Little Debbies for the Snack Cake walk that evening.  These can be dropped off in the school office anytime.
