End of the 2011-2012 School Year

Hello Everyone!
Just one more PTO update before summer vacation!  Thank-you to everyone who helped out with PTO activities this year. I hear from our teachers and staff a lot about how much they appreciate what the PTO does for Samuelson.  I'm very glad we accomplished getting the Walking Track built last fall.  I enjoyed a lap  around the track with my favorite first grader during lunch at Field Day.  :)

Here are a few things to look forward to for the next school year!

+ Samuelson Walk-a-thon.
Our main fundraiser next year will be a Walk-a-Thon, rather than a catalog sale.  The Walk-a-thon is currently scheduled for Friday, October 12.  Details will come home with students in mid-September.  We will be asking local businesses for doantions for prizes for the students.  If your business would like to donate an item that is valued around $10, please let me know.  We will be sure to include sponsors in all publicity for the event.

+ Class Room ParentsWe are changing how parents sign-up to help with Classroom Parties.  Be on the lookout for the sign-up sheets at registration in July, Meet the Teacher Night in August, and Parent-Teacher Conferences in October.

+ PTO Board MembersI want to Thank Rachel Hansen and Jodi Barron for serving on the PTO Board for the past several years.  They have decided to step down from these positions.  At our May PTO meeting, Kris Jackson volunteered to continue as Vice President and Heather Ashton will become the PTO Secretary.  I am moving to the Treasurer position.  This means the PTO still needs a President or two Co-Presidents.  The President/Co-President position(s) main responsibiltiy is to be in charge on the PTO meetings and make sure there are parents to organize the PTO's activities during the year.  If you want more information about this position, please let me know. 

+ PTO CommitteesDid you know the PTO coordinates the following activities each school year?
5th Grade Recognition, Beaverdale Fall Parade, Box Tops for Education, Coordinates Classroom Volunteers, Fall Walk-a-Thon, Field Day (coordiante Supplies), Fun Night, Labels for Education, Pop Corn Parties, Restaurant Nights, Samuelson Wear, Scholastic Classroom Book Orders, School Directory, School Pictures, Skating Parties, Teacher Appreciation Week, Valentine Breakfast

We're looking for a parent to help coordinate each one, with other parents helping out as needed.  If you are interested in any of these, or want more information, please let me know.  If you signed up to help with these projects at our May PTO meeting, I do have down to help and I'm hoping we can find more volunteers.  :)  

We may not be able to offer all these activities next year without more volunteers.  Also, if you have an idea for a PTO activity, please let me know that too!
